                Shanthikarma 

Shanthikarma is one of the important traditional religious and cultural rituals in Sri Lanka. The word “shanthi” means peace or tranquility and “karma” means action. Therefore, Shanthikarma can be described as rituals performed to ward off evil forces and invite good forces.

Since ancient times, the people of Sri Lanka believed that diseases, suffering and various difficulties were caused by false influences. In such cases, they tried to remove those difficulties by performing Shanthikarma. There are different types of Shanthikarma such as “thovil”, “bali”, “shanthikarma”.

Music, dance, chanting and special costumes are used in performing these rituals. Drums, dance performances and religious rituals are combined to perform these rituals. It is believed that this brings special religious and mental comfort to the group.

Furthermore, Shanthikarma is also considered a cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. It is a tradition passed down from generation to generation and is closely related to folk life and religion.

Finally, Shantikrama is a special ritual that combines traditional beliefs, religious practices and artistic elements. It helps to preserve human psychological comfort and cultural values.
